North Carolina Builder Institute

THE PROGRAM
— With fast-pace changes taking place in the building industry today, the North Carolina Builder Institute (NCBI) has  developed a professional level of courses designed to give you an edge over your competition.  NCBI is striving to provide you with an opportunity to achieve professional growth, share knowledge and insight with building professionals, earn a professional designation in the housing market, and develop a valuable peer network.

FACULTY INSTRUCTORS —Faculty instructors have been carefully selected to develop courses in support of a top-notch educational program.  Faculty will consistently update course materials and topics will change periodically to address current trends in the industry. (See Course Faculty for biographical information on each instructor.)

REGISTRATION FEES — Course fees for NCHBA members are $85 per 4 hours and $170 per 8 hours. See registration form for non-member fees. Registration fees will be refunded if canceled in writing no later than 10 days prior to the class. Transfers to future NCBI sessions are NOT allowed.

CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS — To earn the Accredited Builder (AB) designation, students must complete 72 hours of course work in the 100 and/or 200 level curriculum.   To earn the Accredited Associate (AA) Designation, students must complete 48 hours of course work in the 100 and/or 200 level courses. To earn the Accredited Master Builder (AMB) designation a student must first successfully complete the requirements for the AB or AA designation. Once the AB or AA designation is completed, a student must then complete the 40 hours of course work required for the AMB designation. These courses are indicated in the curriculum by the 300 level course numbers.  All initial course work must be completed in one of the North Carolina Builder Institute approved classes.

Requirements for re-certification are 8 hours of course work per year for both the AB and AA designations.  Initial certification is valid for one year ending on December 31st of the year following certification.  Re-certification is based on completion of 8 hours of continuing education course work each year, on a topic relating to the home building industry. Hours for recertification can be acquired at your local, state or national meetings, community college or other outside source. For questions concerning the North Carolina Builder Institute certificate requirements contact NCHBA at 1-800-662-7129.
